چکیده
Background: To evaluate local control and cosmetic outcome in patients with cancer in the nasal cavity/vestibule treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Methods: From 06/2008 – 11/2012 15 consecutive patients presenting nasal cavity (n=5), ala of the nose (n=5) or nasal vestibule tumors (n=5) were treated in our institution either postoperatively (n=8) or as definitive treatment (n=7). Results: Mean/median follow-up (FU) was 30/22 months (range 17-62). Two patients suffered from a local relapse. As a salvage therapy an ablatio nasi was carried out in curative intention in both patients. Thereafter no failure was reported. Local control rate, ultimate local control and overall survival after 2 years were 87%, 100% and 100%, respectively. None of the patients developed grade II or higher late sequels. Cosmetic outcome after RT was very satisfying so far. Conclusion: IMRT for nasal tumors is effective and well tolerated. Radical surgical procedures can be saved for curative salvage treatment.

INTRODUCTION The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical outcome of intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in 46 patients with paranasal sinus tumors with special respect to treatment-related toxicity. PATIENTS AND METHODS We treated 46 patients with histologically proven tumors of the paranasal sinuses with IMRT. Histological classification included squamous cell carcinoma in 6, adeno...

Case report: In this case study we report the treatment outcome of using photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) and chlorine e6 based PDT as part of adjuvant therapy in a patient with locally advanced nasal carcinoma. The patient had previously refused surgical ablation of the nose for cosmetic and psychological reasons. Chlorin E6 was given IV at a dose of 1 mg/sqm BSA three hours before PDT procedure. ...

BACKGROUND Except for early T1,2 N0 stages, the prognosis for patients with oral cavity cancer (OCC) is reported to be worse than for carcinoma in other sites of the head and neck (HNC). The aim of this work was to assess disease outcome in OCC following IMRT.Between January 2002 and January 2007, 346 HNC patients have been treated with curative intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) at t...
متن کاملSkin Grafts vs Local Flaps for Reconstruction of Nasal Defects: A Retrospective Cohort Study.
IMPORTANCE Nasal defects commonly are a result of removal of skin lesions, and reconstruction presents a cosmetic challenge to surgeons. Conventional thought and study results have held that cosmetic outcomes of local flap reconstructions may be superior to those of skin grafts. However, local flap reconstructions require more adjunctive procedures. We propose that in select cases, skin grafts ...
